***SPECIAL EDITION*** Super Mom Contest for Release Recovery
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
A seven-year-old finishing her very first triathlon is already a big deal, but what grabbed me most was how clearly you can hear confidence being built in real time. Evelyn joins me right after race day to share what felt exciting, what felt scary, and why she signed up in the first place. Her answers are simple, honest, and surprisingly wise: swimming is pure fun, biking hills are intimidating, and trying something new is the whole point.
Then I sit down with her mom, Jamie, to talk about the bigger story behind this “special edition.” Jamie is currently in the 2026 Super Mom contest, and if she wins the $20,000 prize, she’s committed to donating the full amount to the Release Recovery Foundation, which helps fund treatment scholarships for people who otherwise couldn’t afford recovery support. We also clarify how voting works, including that you can vote for free every day, and that donations for votes support the Children’s Miracle Network.
We also get real about what it means to lead by example. Jamie shares her sobriety journey, what it means to be closing in on 10 years, and why the mindset of “do as I say and as I do” matters when kids are watching. If you care about parenting, fitness motivation, triathlon training, sobriety, or building a healthier family culture, this one is short but packed with heart.
If this moved you, subscribe, share it with a friend, leave a five-star review, and check the show notes to vote for Jamie. What’s one habit you’re trying to model for the people who look up to you?

Welcome And Special Edition Setup
SPEAKER_02Hello, and welcome back to Over the Next Till Fitness Podcast. I'm Carla Coffey, your coach and host for today's program. I want to thank all of you for sharing, rating, and following the program. Please continue to do that. It means the world to me to help me grow. Please go in there and give me five stars. I appreciate that. You can email me, Carla, at coffeecrew coaching.com, if you have questions, if you need a coach, or if you'd like to be on the program. Today is a special edition. And before we jump into that edition, I do have to give you a little warning that interviewing a seven-year-old for even just a short time is quite challenging. She did amazing. She was a trooper, and that was all after having done her very first triathlon. So I wanted to preface that because today's special edition included her, because I wanted you guys to hear how we can influence our children, our grandchildren, our nieces and nephews, no matter the age, even as adults. So as a mom, as a dad, as a grandma, grandpa, we have that ability. And honestly, she was so brave, not only to do the triathlon, but to agree to be interviewed. And it's a it's a quick portion, and then we get to her mom right after. So I just wanted to kind of let you know that that's what we have in store. It's a short episode. Um, it's just a special edition to get the word out. So enjoy. Hi, Jamie and Evelyn. It's so great to have you on the show today. Hi there. Thank you for having us. Yes, my pleasure. So let's start some questions for Evelyn. Uh Evelyn, yesterday you ran your, uh, I should say you participated in your very first triathlon. Uh how was that? Was that exciting for you?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. What made you want to do a triathlon?
SPEAKER_01I wanted to do it a triathlon because it sounded fun because I love swimming and running. And and and I've been and I and I and I've been practicing on my new bike, so I so I wanted to see, I wanted to test out how it feels.
SPEAKER_02Very cool. What part was the most exciting?
SPEAKER_01Uh swimming.
SPEAKER_02Really? Because you like to swim the most?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That is so not my favorite thing. She's like your mama. She is. What part were you the most nervous for?
SPEAKER_01Um, I was nervous for um the the biking part.
SPEAKER_00Why were you nervous?
SPEAKER_01I was nervous for the biking part because um there was really high hills and and the hills were like tall and it was harder for me to get up the hills.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. How old are you, Evelyn?
SPEAKER_01I'm seven years old.
SPEAKER_02Seven years old and already p participating in sports. That's so great. So did anyone encourage you to do the triathlon, or did you just out of the blue, you wanted to do one? What what was the driving force, if you know what that means?
SPEAKER_01What does driving force mean?
SPEAKER_02Like someone encouraged you or you saw it on TV?
SPEAKER_01Nothing. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_02Your mom. Did you train with your mom at all? Um, yeah. A little bit? Yeah, that's great. Did you get special clothes to run your uh to do your training in or to do your race in?
SPEAKER_01Um, I didn't get clothes, but I did get some special shoes.
SPEAKER_02There you go. You gotta have those special running shoes. Yeah. So does your mom do a lot of activities that are racing? Yeah. Does she? Do you think that's pretty cool?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Is she participating right now in a contest to try to um to encourage other people for I guess uh I'm not sure if that's the right uh wording, but um is your mom in a contest right now that she's trying to win?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Do you know what it's called?
SPEAKER_01Um, wait, what is it called again? You just talked about it.
SPEAKER_02Super mom. Yeah, that's what Supermon, yes. You think your mom is a super mom?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Do you think she should win?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. What will happen if she wins, do you know?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but I wait. Can you explain in mom?
Hills, Nerves, And Race Gear
SPEAKER_02Yeah, let's let's go to mom. Mom, can you explain what this is about?
SPEAKER_00So it's the super mom contest, and um, if I were to win, all the money would go to um a really special foundation that's important to me and was important to Grandma McKee, Release Recovery Foundation. And it supports um, really gives like treatment scholarship opportunities to people that otherwise couldn't afford it. So we've talked a lot about kind of how important that is in our house and how important that would be to be able to get that money back, right? Yeah, so great.
SPEAKER_02Evelyn, would you like to be excused from the podcast now? And and I'll just grill your mom about things.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Thank you so much for being on the show.
SPEAKER_01Thank you. Thank you, wait, thank you.
SPEAKER_02You're welcome. Bye-bye. You're good.
SPEAKER_01No, you can go up there.
SPEAKER_02Okay, thank you. Thanks, Carla. Yeah, so adorable.
SPEAKER_00Is it your first time ever doing something like this? She's so sick.
SPEAKER_02Mine too. Yeah, right. So tell us more about this foundation, Jamie, and the importance of this contest to you. Um, what it means to you, what it means to your family, and about the money of how much uh you could win and where it will go.
Super Mom Contest And Where Money Goes
SPEAKER_00So it's the Super Mom contest, the 2026 Super Mom contest that I'm in. And I'm in the group finals right now. Um basically, whoever wins this competitive backup, whoever wins this competition, um, and everybody's a super mom, but the the person that has voted to win this competition gets$20,000 as the main prize. Um, and what I've decided to do that if if I were to win this, which I really am surprised at how kind of far I've gotten so far, but if I were to win this, I committed to giving the full amount to the Release Recovery Foundation. Um and it's actually a foundation that I learned about through, interestingly enough, uh some reality television stars. Um, so Carl Radke is on Summer House. I don't know if you've heard of that show, um, but he is in uh he's sober. He's definitely in the recovery movement. He has um Soft Bar is um it's a bar that he owns in Brooklyn and it is all mocktails and it's a non-alcoholic bar. Um, anyways, he's just really big into the movement and he connected with them, um, the Release Recovery Foundation. And so that's how I actually heard about the foundation because I followed him so closely the last couple of years, especially within uh his recovery chapters. And um, so I started reading more about it, and I was just like, wow, this is like a really cool foundation. Um, you know, I I've been waiting for an opportunity or something to come to me ever since my mom passed in 2020, something that I could do for her legacy. And I happened upon this contest, and and when this dollar amount came up, I just thought, you know what? If I win, I would want to give it all to this foundation in her name. Um, you know, it's called Super Mom, and and I think there are moms of all kinds, right? And um, this is just kind of a way to show that generational cycles can be broken. And I I just think it's important to just continue to give back. And I think this foundation, especially, is one that um that I really believe in. Uh, so that's that's that's why I chose the foundation. And um, yeah, as far as the contest goes, I mean, I'm definitely on Instagram and Facebook more than I ever have been. I'm trying to do a little self-promotion, you know. I'm just really getting it out there. And, you know, I think the more people that know where this money could go, uh, you know, it could garner some more votes. You can vote for free. It's kind of why not? You can vote for free every single day. Um, and hopefully I just continue to get further and further into the competition.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So that I think that's important for the listeners to know is that it doesn't cost them anything to vote, but the company contest is however they're getting that money. That's that's that they're giving that money and that will go to the foundation.
SPEAKER_00Well, and something to note is this contest, actually, all the money that's raised for this contest um specifically goes to the children's miracle network. So um, like you are able to donate money for votes, and the money that is donated for those votes specifically go to the children's miracle network. So that's a great, that's a great place for it to go as well. I'm just saying that if I were to win, instead of just having$20,000 to do whatever I'd like with, I would actually donate that to the Release Recovery Foundation because that that's what I would want to do with with chillings. Sure.
SPEAKER_02So we had had a conversation, which I will put that uh link in the in the show notes, as well as all the links that you've just talked about, Instagram and and the um recovery um release tool. Yeah, we'll put that those in links. But you and I had had a conversation about your sobriety. And you recently had an anniversary.
Sobriety, Legacy, And Parenting By Example
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I well, I have um I'm going on 10 years, so that'll be in December. You know, every month counts, and I can't believe I'm getting to 10 years. I it's just awesome. And I'm so glad my mom was like so involved. I mean, I was so excited for her to experience uh my sobriety back in 2016. Like I said, she passed in 2020, but um, so she was a big part of that too, and and was along for the ride. So I think all of this is just full circle. And yeah, we had an awesome time talking a couple months ago. Um, because I had run the Chicago Marathon in October, and we had, and you were my coach. And so that's kind of how this all this all kind of came about with with our friendship. And now we run weekly, and you have an your ultra hundred coming up that we're we're doing together. I'm I'm not running the full thing, I'm gonna help pace.
SPEAKER_02But um, yeah, so we just kind of have our own little community, which is great, but and it could none of it have happened had you not gotten sober, and so yeah, you know, 100%. What a super mom for that, because you know, not all of them get sober. And uh, so you're setting a fine example, a great example for Evelyn. And now that she's uh participated in her first triathlon, uh, which you have now done too.
SPEAKER_00Um well, I yeah. I mean, I've done I've done a couple um sprint try relays, and then I did my full first sprint try, and then I have the Olympic triathlon coming up in June. Yeah, and then the Iron Man half in September.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So, you know, for all those moms out there, um, sorry if you didn't hear about the contest, but maybe next year. Uh but it would be great if they could go to the links that we're we'll provide and vote for you and help you to win first place so that you can get that$20,000 and donate that in your mom's name to the recovery um tell me. So bad.
SPEAKER_00It's a lot of alliteration there. It is.
SPEAKER_02Yes. Uh so uh do you have any other um things you would like to add that I didn't ask? Uh, you know, I know for those of you who are listening, the reason we had Evelyn on was to show what being a super mom can do because you can encourage your children uh to follow you in something. And hopefully it's a good thing, right? Not into alcoholism, um, which some of us do follow our parents into that. Um, and and then we get out, you know, uh of our own accord sometimes. So uh so that was why we had Evelyn on was to show what a great example you have become for her. So, do you have anything else that I haven't talked about?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I just think, and I think we talked about this on our last podcast too. I um, you know, to me, I I nothing bothers me more than the saying, do as I say, not as I do. I just it bothers me and it always has. And to me, especially with being a parent or any sort of a mentor, you know, um, it's like do as I say and as I do, you know, like live the life you would want little ones to mimic, you know, and um, and not everybody can, and and sometimes it takes a long time until you can figure it all out, and then them seeing you figuring it all out is actually where the strength is. But um, I'm not saying, you know, it's perfect, it definitely isn't, but um that's what that's been been my biggest thing with my kids, you know. I I was I got sober before I had kids. It was just so important to me to um be able to live my life the way I'd want them to live theirs and for them to be able to look up to me, I hope, and uh make them proud too.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, and I'm sure they are. And and and yesterday, uh watching Evelyn participate in that and Cole's reaction to her at the finish line, oh my heart. I was just like holding back tears. He was so proud of her, as I'm sure you were everyone was too. But to have a little brother, because is he five? He's two years younger.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they're all two years.
SPEAKER_02To run up and hug her and squeeze her the way he did, and being so proud of his big sister, was just uh yeah, it was great. And and that's because of you. That's because you, you know, they're proud of you, they're proud of each other, and you can just see that that tie that they all have, that bond in your family. And they they can't do that without mom. So you truly are a super mom. Oh, you're the best.
SPEAKER_00Thank you. And everybody's a super mom. Everybody in this contest is a super mom. I'm absolutely truly no better than any other mom or profile I've read or anything else. Um, I I, you know, every mom's super. It's it's a super tough job. So I just want to say that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, for sure. Yeah, we talked about that yesterday, and you were like, why would people pick me? Why am I in first? I don't know, you know, but you are. So let's run with that and let's see if we can give you some more votes. Let's make a difference, right? All right, that's right. Let's make it. Keep it moving.
unknownYes.
How To Vote And Support The Show
SPEAKER_02All right, thanks, Jamie. And uh, we'll get this out right away and we'll put everything in the show notes, friends. So go to your show notes and uh find those Instagrams and go on there and do the voting and let's get Jamie to the win. Oh, thanks, Carla. All right, take care. Okay, bye. All right, how'd you like that? That was really special, wasn't it? Um, I really uh appreciate you guys uh going uh to the show notes and finding those links and voting. It does not cost you one penny. Obviously, you can donate if you'd like, um, but I know on the weekends um your votes count uh for two votes, so please uh help Jamie get to first place and uh help her with her quest in honoring her mom. Uh I do want to thank uh Lionel for buying me a coffee. Uh there are a few others that participated in that, and some of you have gotten like a subscription, and you buy me one every month. Uh or so, Carol, thank you for that. I appreciate that. Uh, you can continue to uh buy me a coffee because you know how much I love my coffee and help support the show. But the biggest support is uh sharing, rating, giving me five stars. Uh there's something about the Google machine. When they see those rankings, they push you a little further for so people can find you. So thank you for that. And I'll look forward to seeing you all next time.
